New York - The greatest city of them all?

New York, where does one start in the city that never goes to bed. With people converging on this iconic metropolis 24 hours a day to visit possibly the greatest city of them all. They come from every corner of the globe many traveling on business but many more on holiday to soak up the sights, crawl the curbs of this great city to experience the famous sights and smells of the city. The energy of the city is pulsating with a cacophony of cultures colliding to make a virtual melting pot of people from different ethnic persuasions that encompasses everyone one who visits this city and thus creates an impressionable atmosphere that many will likely remember forever. Here are a few insights to visiting New York on a budget. You can find great offers for cheap flights to New York at travel agencies like Gohop.ie.

First stop must be the laid back yet vibrant Central Park where you catch sit, back relax and watch the world go by. There are a myriad of things to do in central park that are free or very affordable for all those who visit. In winter the park is cold, leafless but still wonderfully active, you can visit the Wollman Ice Rink build in the early 1950’s where all and sundry go ice skating probably the single most picturesque activity to be enjoyed in the park during the height of winter. For a more scenic viewpoint head to the infamous Bow Bridge which is shown in many of the hit movies that feature central park. It is a stunning cast iron bridge that spans over 70 feet across the lake. For children a must is the Carousel in central park which is an historic one originally opened in the late 1870 and was originally powered by a donkey. It and the Wollman Ice rink are two of the parks most famous and visited attractions with over 500,0000 visitors a year between them.

Other places to visit for those on a budget is the numerous cultural attractions to be found at the various museums where the fees are not exorbitant and children are usually admitted free of charge. Some of my favorite include MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art) located centrally on 53rd street showcasing modern works of art and contributions by some of the best innovators of the modern decade. Charging only 20 Dollars per adult admission and kids under 16 being free this is a great place to visit and take the family on an affordable afternoon. Another museum that offers an affordable day out is the Brooklyn museum which has a huge number of collections ranging from the ancient arts of Egypt, the Far East, Asia and African cultures. Another place worth visiting is the Frick Collection located in wealthy 5th avenue area of the city in a mansion house which offers all those who visit an insight into the opulent world of the Manhattan upper echelons. Rembrandt, Renoir and Money are all on show here and the admission is under $20 for adults and children under 12 get free entry.

New York has so much to offer those of every taste and budget. Research and plan your days well and you can have a great time in this wonderful city and stay within your budget.
